Kangana invites Deepika as first guest to her Himalayan cafe
What's the story
Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut is all set to open her first cafe, The Mountain Story, in Himachal Pradesh.
She recently shared a clip from a 2013 News18 Actors Roundtable discussion where she had expressed her desire to open a restaurant.
In the same conversation, Deepika Padukone had jokingly offered to be Ranaut's first client.
Now, years later, the Panga actor has taken Padukone up on that offer and invited her as the inaugural customer at The Mountain Story.
Career transition
Ranaut's journey from acting to politics and entrepreneurship
Ranaut has had a rollercoaster career, moving from acting to politics and now, entrepreneurship. She became a Member of Parliament for the Bhartiya Janata Party in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh last year.
Apart from her political career, she made her solo directorial debut in 2025 with the political thriller Emergency.
Despite their differences, Ranaut has invited Padukone for the opening of her new cafe.
The establishment opens doors on Valentine's Day.
Invitation extended
Here's how Ranaut extended the offer
To give you a refresher, in the roundtable discussion, the actors were asked what would they be doing, 10 years down the line.
While Padukone had said she would still be acting and living her passion, Ranaut had said she wanted to open a restaurant.
Padukone had then jokingly said she would be Ranaut's first client.
Now, years later, the Queen actor has taken Padukone up on that offer.
Past conflicts
Ranaut and Padukone's history of disagreements
Despite their lighthearted exchange in 2013, Ranaut and Padukone's relationship has been rocky.
When the Rajput Karni Sena threatened to harm Padukone for her portrayal of Rani Padmini in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 2018 film Padmaavat, Ranaut didn't sign a petition protesting the threat.
She later revealed she had turned down the same role in Padmaavat as she found it "irrelevant."
It remains to be seen if the two stars publicly mend their differences.
