Kangana Ranaut rejected films with Khans, Akshay, Ranbir
Kangana Ranaut, the actor-turned-politician, has revealed that she rejected movie offers that starred big names like Ranbir Kapoor and Akshay Kumar. The National Award-winning actor stated that she also consciously chose not to work with the Khans of Bollywood (Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan). During a recent podcast with Raj Shamani, Ranaut elaborated on her decision and its underlying reasons.
'I refused Khan-led films'
Ranaut stated, "I refused Khan-led films. All Khans are very nice to me, they are very kind to me, and they have never misbehaved with me." She added, "But I said no to their films because their films are prototypes wherein the heroine will have two scenes and one song. So I said I don't want to do that." "I want to be an example of a woman who is an A-lister [and] has not worked with Khans."
Ranaut's stand against gender disparity in Bollywood
The actor also expressed her desire to serve as a role model for women who aspire to make it big in the film industry. "I wanted to do my best for women who were going to come after me and no Khans can make you successful, no Kumar can make you successful, no Kapoor can make you successful," she said. "I didn't want to be the prototype that only a hero can make a heroine successful."
Ranaut's career at a glance
Post her successful performances in movies like Queen and Tanu Weds Manu, Ranaut has been inclined toward female-centric roles. Her filmography includes movies like Fashion and Thalaivii, which didn't feature any top-tier Bollywood actors. The actor is now gearing up for her next project, Emergency, a film based on the Emergency period in India during the early 1980s under former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's rule. It will release on September 6.
