'I'm not stupid...crazy': Kangana Ranaut responds to BJP's public rebuke
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut has responded to the party's public criticism of her recent comments on the farmers' protest. In an interview with India Today, Ranaut said she accepts the party's reprimand and acknowledged that she is not the final authority on BJP's policies or positions. Her remarks about the farmers' protest had sparked a controversy, leading to a stern response from the party.
'Don't think I am the final voice of the party...'
Addressing the party's rebuke, Ranaut said, "I was reprimanded by the party leadership, and that's fine with me. I do not think I am the final voice of the party. I am not that crazy or stupid to believe that." She also expressed regret if her comments unintentionally harmed the party's cause or policies, adding, "If I have genuinely hurt the party's cause and its position or policy, there is nobody who could be more hurt than me."
Ranaut's comments on farmers' protest drew criticism
Ranaut's controversial comments came during a discussion on the farmers' protest, where she claimed that "bodies were hanging and rapes were taking place" during the agitation. She further suggested that a "Bangladesh-like situation" could have occurred if not for India's strong leadership, and insinuated foreign involvement in the protest. These remarks drew widespread criticism and led to the BJP distancing itself from her statements.
BJP disowned Ranaut's remarks on farmers' protest
In response to Ranaut's comments, the BJP issued a statement saying, "The statement made by BJP MP Kangana Ranaut in the context of the farmers' agitation is not the opinion of the party. BJP expresses its disagreement with the statement made by Kangana Ranaut." Following the party's response, Ranaut expressed, "I am looking forward to being more careful with my words and aligning to the party's policies. Because for the BJP whether we are there or not, India should remain."
Ranaut's history of controversial statements
This isn't the first time Ranaut has made controversial statements. In the past, she has made claims about increasing terrorism and extremism in Punjab, accused international personalities like Rihanna and Greta Thunberg of being influenced by foreign forces to support the farmers' protests, and made controversial remarks about Rahul Gandhi. She also claimed that Subash Chandra Bose was India's first Prime Minister. Despite the controversies, Ranaut has stated that she doesn't regret any of her statements made so far.
