'Can't scare me': Kangana fights death threats with conviction
Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut, who is all set for the release of her upcoming Hindi film Emergency, has been receiving death threats amid calls for a boycott of the movie. Certain Sikh groups have alleged that the film "disrespects Sikh martyrs" and demanded a ban on the Ranaut directorial. In a recent interview with Aaj Tak, the actor was asked about the threats. Here's how she responded.
'These people can't scare me,' says Ranaut
She told Aaj Tak, "Mujhe aap dara nahi sakte. Mai is desh ki awaaz marrne nahi dungi. Mai is desh me samvidhanik adhikaro ko khatam nahi hone dungi." "Mai hi nahi, har ek kalaakar ko abhivyakti ki azaadi honi chahiye (You can't scare me. I will not let them suppress the voice of the country. I don't want them to destroy the constitutional rights in this country. Not just me, every artist should have freedom of expression)."
'If I back down, they'll silence all artists'
She continued, "Kyunki agar mai piche hatt gayi toh yeh log jo hai kal ko kisi bhi artist ko uthne nahi denge, yeh sabko dara dhamka ke chup kara de aur usko karke apni ek alag history likhenge (If I step back then these people will not let any artist rise tomorrow. They will silence everyone and by doing this, they will write a different chapter of history on their own)."
