Kangana Ranaut takes indirect dig at Deepika Padukone's 'Gehraiyaan'
Kangana Ranaut is not one to keep her opinions to herself and this time, she has launched an indirect attack on the recently released Deepika Padukone-starrer, Gehraiyaan. Calling it a "bad movie," Ranaut went on to comment on how "no amount of skin show or pornography can save it." Recently, the actor had lambasted a journalist for asking a question about Padukone, too.
'Don't sell trash'
After Gehraiyaan got released on Friday, the Queen star posted an Instagram Story on Saturday to share her reaction. She also posted a clip from the 1965 song, Chand Si Mehbooba Ho Meri, alongside and wrote, "I am also a millennial but I identify and understand this kind of romance." "In the name of millennial/new age/urban movies don't sell trash [please]," she added.
'No amount of skin-show' can save bad movies, opined Ranaut
The Manikarnika actor went on to write, "Bad movies are bad movies, no amount of skin show or pornography can save it... it's a basic fact koi gehraiyaan wali baat nahi hai [there is no depth in this]." Of course, Ranaut did not name-drop anybody but her use of winking emoji suggests that she was subtly targeting the Shakun Batra directorial.
What is 'Gehraiyaan' about?
As for the film, Gehraiyaan deals with the twists and turns in the relationship of four young urban individuals, belonging to the upper-middle class. You can read our review. The movie, which premiered directly on Amazon Prime Video, contains various intimate scenes featuring Padukone and her fellow actors Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday, and Dhairya Karwa. Apparently, the film did not sit right with Ranaut.
'Lock Upp' event: Ranaut shot down journalist's question about Padukone
Before giving her review of the Chennai Express star's new film, Ranaut had shot down a reporter who asked her questions about Padukone. Recently, while launching her upcoming reality show, Lock Upp, she was asked about a social media influencer's comments on Padukone's clothing for Gehraiyaan promotions. Noting "[Padukone] can defend herself," Ranaut told the reporter, "I can't promote her film here. Sit down."
Ranaut has lashed out against Padukone multiple times in past
Ranaut, who claims to be the biggest female superstar in India, has often attacked Padukone. In 2020, she had called the 36-year-old "depression ki dukan." She also lashed out against Padukone when her name surfaced during the drugs probe of Sushant Singh Rajput's death case.
