Manikarnika doesn't defame Rani Laxmibai, says Kangana Ranaut
Kangana Ranaut has broken her silence on the controversy surrounding her upcoming movie 'Manikarnika: Queen of Jhansi'. She said there is nothing controversial about 'Manikarnika' and it was stupid that people create such controversies related to the valiant queen. A fringe group had alleged the movie shows Rani Laxmibai in poor light by portraying an affair between her and a British man.
Stop with the controversies already
"There is nothing controversial in 'Manikarnika'. It's really bad on our part to even think about creating such controversies for a woman who gave tough fight to British rulers while fighting alone for the nation. This movie will instill a feeling of pride among people," she added.
Makers of the movie have also defended it
Earlier, producer of film Kamal Jain had also defended the movie. He said it doesn't show any affair, and history hasn't been distorted. Jain said Rani Laxmibai was one of the most brave soldiers of India, and no one can even think of disrespecting her. He added the team was willing to show script to people who have doubts about the movie.
Much ado about nothing?
Brahmin group 'Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha' from Rajasthan said some of their followers learnt the movie showed an affair between Rani Laxmibai and a Britsh officer. Calling it a 'distortion of historical facts', the group wanted a clarification from the makers, failing which action would be taken. Their protests were also backed by the Rajput Karni Sena. However, Kangana Ranaut has called the protests baseless.
