As the title Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi indicates, the movie is based on the life of legendary Rani Lakshmibai and her fierce battle against the British East India Company. Talking about the story, Kangana said, "We are really looking forward to showing the essence of Manikarnika's life through glimpses of the film, and eventually the story of the film which is our hero".
