After Indira and Jayalalithaa, Kangana wants to play this politician
Actor-BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, who is set to portray late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in her upcoming film Emergency, has revealed which politician she would like to play next on screen. During a recent interview on Aap Ki Adalat, Ranaut was asked if she would prefer to portray West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee or Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati.
'I would love to play Mayawati ji'
Ranaut, who has previously also essayed the role of actor-politician J Jayalalithaa in Thalaivii (2021) responded, "Kalakar ke liye kuch mushkil nahi hai (Nothing is impossible for an artist)." "But I feel that as a leader, I would love to play Mayawati ji." She added, "I feel these women chose me to play them onscreen - be it Jayalalithaa, Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi or Indira Gandhi."
'Emergency' faces backlash, certification issues
Ranaut's upcoming film Emergency, which explores the life of Gandhi during the 21-month emergency period from 1975 to 1977, has been facing extreme backlash from several Sikh groups. Its certification has also been halted by the Central Board of Film Certification due to alleged death threats received by its members over certain scenes in the movie. It is scheduled to release on September 6 and also features late actor Satish Kaushik, Anupam Kher, and Shreyas Talpade.
