Once 'arrogant,' now Jaya Bachchan is 'dignified actor' for Kangana
Actor Kangana Ranaut, who recently criticized veteran actor and Rajya Sabha member Jaya Bachchan, has now praised her as "one of the most dignified women" in the film industry. Ranaut's comments came during an interaction with News18, where she also addressed her past remarks about Bachchan. The two actors have had a tense relationship, particularly after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in 2020.
'She's known for her short temper...'
Ranaut told the portal, "Jaya Bachchan ji is a very reputed actor of our film industry. Honestly, she's known for her short temper, but at the same time, I'd like to give her the acknowledgment and due credit that in those times...you can imagine that in the 1970s, at a time when women had to roast their skin in the (harsh) lighting, she did films like Guddi back then." "She sent a message of women empowerment through that."
'The way she carries herself in Rajya Sabha...'
The 34-year-old actor also praised Bachchan's conduct in Parliament. "The way she carries herself in Rajya Sabha, I feel very good that we have this kind of representation from the film industry," she said. Ranaut also addressed her past criticism of Bachchan. In 2020, the latter had said in Parliament that people employed by the film industry were attacking it after Rajput's death. Ranaut said, "That's fine. If we say something to each other...I believe she's elder to us."
Earlier, Ranaut criticized Bachchan, describing her as 'arrogant'
These compliments for Bachchan follow Ranaut's earlier remarks in an interview with Fever FM, where she criticized the former, stating, "In the name of feminism, people are going in an ugly direction...Society is going in an ugly direction." Ranaut described Bachchan's behavior as "arrogance," asserting, "People are simply flaring up with the name coming up like they're getting a panic attack or something. And when they say, 'My identity is taken over, I am destroyed,' I just feel sad."
