After box office rampage, Kamal Haasan's 'Vikram' sets OTT record
Less than a week after debuting on OTT, the Tamil film Vikram starring Kamal Haasan aka "Universal Hero" has emerged as one of the top movies on the streaming platform Disney+ Hotstar. The film hit the platform on July 8 and it has recorded the highest opening weekend in terms of viewership. The news was announced by the streamer on Twitter.

During its theatrical run, Vikram set the box office on fire and broke records. And the success streak is being kept up during the prime time of its OTT outing, too. Vikram beat the record set by Baahubali 2: The Conclusion in Tamil Nadu by collecting more than Rs. 150cr in the state. So, it's important to note how the film performs on OTT.

Taking to their social media space, Disney+ Hotstar announced the news about Vikram's latest record. The streamer wrote, "#Vikram - The highest ever opening weekend viewership, subscription and watch time on Disney+ Hotstar." Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Vikram hit the theaters on June 3. It is a spinoff of the filmmaker's previous film Kaithi, which is also available on the platform.

Second highest-grossing Tamil film globally
The gangster drama reportedly minted a whopping Rs. 407cr in its lifetime run at the worldwide box office. Collecting Rs. 166cr at its global box office, Vikram is the second highest-grossing Tamil film globally, standing next to Rajinikanth's 2.0. Directed by Shankar, 2.0 was the sequel to Rajinikanth's Enthiran. It also featured Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar in an important role.

Vikram featured Fahadh Faasil and Vijay Sethupathi in important roles. Suriya made a cameo appearance toward the end along with Arjun Das, while Kalidas Jayaram played an important role, too. Anirudh Ravichander composed its music, while Girish Gangadharan cranked the camera. Vikram is a gangster drama that revolves around underworld drug lords and undercover cops. Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International bankrolled the project.
