Kamal Haasan's 'Thug Life' bags biggest OTT deal in Kollywood
Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam's upcoming gangster drama, Thug Life, has reportedly secured a record-breaking over-the-top (OTT) deal. The film, which marks the reunion of the actor-director duo after 35 years—since their iconic collaboration on Nayakan (1987)—is currently in its post-production phase and is slated for a 2025 release. This development has further heightened the anticipation among fans who are eagerly awaiting the film's release.
'Thug Life' digital rights sold for ₹149.7cr: Report
According to Deccan Herald, the digital rights of Thug Life have been acquired by Netflix for a whopping ₹149.7 crore. This deal is said to be the biggest ever for a Tamil film. This groundbreaking deal surpasses earlier digital rights agreements, such as Suriya's Kanguva, which earned ₹100cr, and Ajith's Good Bad Ugly, which secured ₹95cr. Even Vijay's recent hit, The Greatest of All Time, which fetched ₹100cr, seems small compared to Thug Life.
'Thug Life' to wrap up shooting soon
Reports suggest that the final day of shooting for Thug Life is currently in progress, with the entire production expected to conclude shortly. The film's team is reportedly targeting an April 2025 release and will soon make new announcements to update fans. Despite the secrecy surrounding key details of the film, producer Siva Anant has previously hinted that the reunion of Haasan and Ratnam will be a major highlight.
'Thug Life' boasts of an ensemble cast
Thug Life, which is being touted as a gangster drama, features an ensemble cast that includes Haasan, Silambarasan, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Trisha, Gautham Karthik, Ashok Selvan, Abhirami, Nassar, Joju George, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Vaiyapuri. The film's original background score and soundtrack have been composed by the renowned music composer AR Rahman. The project is a collaboration between Udhayanidhi's Red Giant Movies, Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International, and Ratnam's Madras Talkies.
