'Kamal Aur Meena': Love story that defied death, coming soon!
Director Siddharth P Malhotra has announced his next project, a film titled Kamal Aur Meena. The movie will delve into the love story of legendary filmmaker Kamal Amrohi and iconic actor Meena Kumari. The film's teaser was released on Wednesday, providing a glimpse into the star-crossed romance of the couple. Kamal Aur Meena is set to commence shooting in 2025, with a planned release in 2026.
'A love that went beyond the grave...'
The teaser of Kamal Aur Meena features several pictures of Kumari, accompanied by a voiceover in which she refers to the filmmaker Amrohi as her "shehzada" (prince). The text on the screen reads, "Their star-crossed love story. A dream that refused to die. A love that went beyond the grave." Per the clip and the announcement, the film is currently in the casting phase.

Director expresses excitement about the project
Malhotra expressed his enthusiasm about the project, stating, "It's a profound privilege to direct this incredible true story, though the responsibility is immense. Their relationship was one of deep love and artistic collaboration, spanning over 20 years—from their first meeting when she was just 18 and he was 34." He added that the story offers him an opportunity to create a cinematic world where love, passion, emotion, and music play significant roles.
'Kamal Aur Meena' to feature music by AR Rahman
Malhotra also revealed that the film's music will be scored by renowned composer AR Rahman, with lyrics by Irshad Kamil. The director expressed his gratitude for being allowed to assemble a stellar team, including Bhavani Iyer and Kausar Munir for the project. He also acknowledged Kamal and Meena as his idols, not only for their contributions to cinema but also for their indomitable spirit.
Producer Bilal Amrohi shares his thoughts on the film
Bilal Amrohi, the film's producer and grandson of Amrohi and Kumari, expressed his honor in bringing the untold love story of his grandparents to the screen. He said, "Their story is a beautiful yet tragic chapter in the legacy of Indian cinema." Bilal also mentioned that he has access to over 500 handwritten letters exchanged between his grandparents, as well as personal journals detailing their lives together.
