'Kaabil' director Sanjay Gupta faces racism, shares incident on Twitter
Kaabil director Sanjay Gupta recently took to Twitter to reveal a disturbing incident. The director faced racism at a Kochi hotel and was obviously distressed about it. On the micro-blogging website, Gupta wrote he had a terrible experience on Republic Day, no less. He slammed the "rules" of the hotel and this incident has become the talking point on social media. Here's what happened.
On Republic Day, Gupta was reminded everything's not well
Gupta had gone for a vacation in Kerala but had little idea the trip would take an ugly turn. On Saturday, Gupta went to Hotel Seagull in Fort Kochi. But much to his surprise, he was denied entry "because of his nationality." An Indian hotel refused to attend to Gupta because he is an Indian. This is definitely not the India anyone wants.
Sanjay's first hand experience with racism is disgraceful
With pictures of the hotel, Gupta shared the incident on Twitter. While the hotel, which was established in 1980, exudes beauty, the experience was far from beautiful for Gupta. "Got my first-hand experience of absolute racism. The deck on the waterfront in this pathetic place is for goras only. They have empty tables but won't give them to Indians claiming they're reserved," he tweeted.

Here's what Twitter users said on the incident
Gupta's bitter experience left everyone shocked and Twitter users gave their opinion as well. Netizens expressed their anger and compared the incident to the pre-independence era. A Twitter user wrote, "By seeing this tweet, it comes to my mind the days of British rule when Indians and dogs were not allowed in certain hotels. Are we back to those days?"
"Are you serious?" asks another
"Kerala has become God's disowned country"
Notably, SRK, Priyanka, and Sonam have also faced racism
Meanwhile, Gupta isn't the first celebrity who faced racism. Earlier, celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Sonam Kapoor, and Shilpa Shetty also faced humiliation. In 2009, SRK was detained at New Jersey's Newark Liberty International Airport because of his last name. Similarly, Shilpa Shetty was also targeted because of her nationality during her stint on Big Brother. Nevertheless, she won the show.
