Ewan McGregor, Matthew McConaughey: Search for next Green Lantern begins!
The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) is reportedly considering big names for the character of Hal Jordan in its eagerly-awaited upcoming series Lanterns. Per movie scooper Jeff Sneider of The InSneider, Josh Brolin, known for his roles in Avengers: Endgame and Deadpool 2, has been offered the part. However, if Brolin declines, actors Ewan McGregor and Matthew McConaughey are said to be next in line.
DC's 'Lanterns' series seeks older actor for Jordan
The recent casting rumors for Lanterns align with earlier reports that the DCEU was looking for an older actor to portray Jordan. Brolin (56), McGregor (53), and McConaughey (54) all fit this age profile. This would be McGregor's second role in the DCEU, following his portrayal of Black Mask in 2020's Birds of Prey. McConaughey, on the other hand, has not yet appeared in a DC film.
Fans suggest alternative casting choices for Jordan
The casting rumors have sparked a flurry of online discussions, with some fans expressing their reservations about Brolin's potential casting. Other suggested actors in this game include Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick), Aldren Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), and Josh Hartnett (Trap). James Marsden, known for his roles in X-Men and Sonic the Hedgehog, has also emerged as a popular choice among fans.
Ryan Reynolds's 2011 'Green Lantern' film received mixed reviews
The character of Jordan was previously brought to life by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 movie Green Lantern. The film received mixed reviews, with many considering it "one of the worst superhero films" ever made. Meanwhile, the Lanterns series will not solely focus on Jordan. It will also feature a new recruit John Stewart and follow the duo's intergalactic adventures as they investigate a murder mystery in the American heartland.
