Joseph Quinn dismisses superhero fatigue ahead of 'Fantastic Four' role
Joseph Quinn, the actor slated to play Johnny Storm, also known as the Human Torch, in Marvel's upcoming film The Fantastic Four, has dismissed concerns about superhero fatigue. This comes in light of recent underperformances by 2023 comic book movies including Marvel's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Quinn expressed confidence in the unique elements of this film that will set it apart from other Marvel productions.
Why does this story matter?
"Marvel's First Family" got its new faces in February this year. Apart from Quinn, who received global acclaim following his role in Stranger Things, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will be leading the upcoming fixture. While Pascal will be playing Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic, Kirby has been roped in to essay Sue Storm's role, also known as The Invisible Woman. Moss-Bachrach will take on Ben Grimm alias The Thing's role.
'There are aspects very different from other Marvel films'
Quinn emphasized the distinctiveness of The Fantastic Four during his interview. "I think that with the story of the Fantastic Four, it feels like we want to get this right." He added, "There are aspects of it that are very different to other Marvel films. That felt very compelling to me." The actor also expressed admiration for director Matt Shakman and lauded the script as "brilliant."
Quinn expressed confidence in 'The Fantastic Four' project
Quinn underscored the importance of character development and audience engagement in superhero movies. He stated, "Superhero movies are movies about people. And if we're invested in the people and the characters and the peril and the spectacle, then that's why people go to the theaters to watch films." The actor also expressed his full commitment to this project, saying, "We're not just in a penny; we're in for a pound with this one. We're going to go for it."
Quinn to bring unique spin to Johnny Storm's character
Following in the footsteps of Chris Evans and Michael B Jordan, Quinn is set to bring Johnny Storm to life on screen. When asked about whether he took inspiration from Evans's version during auditions, he stated, "No. I mean, you're going to make it your own." He also shared his thoughts on the new direction of Fantastic Four within the Marvel universe, indicating that the banner's commitment was apparent from the kind of people Marvel has been roping in.
