John Cena wants to be the next Captain America
Avengers: Endgame is approaching and fans are eager to witness the aftermath of Thanos' catastrophic finger snap in Avengers: Infinity War. However, it is a bittersweet anticipation since the upcoming film will mark the retirement of Chris Evans, who plays Steve Rogers or Captain America from the Marvel Universe. Surprisingly, WWE star John Cena has expressed an interest in playing Captain America. Here's more.
The mantle of the super soldier
Following the news of Evans' farewell, Marvel Studios has not yet actively begun to look for a replacement. However, Cena expressed interest when asked on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. When questioned by Ellen, the 41-year-old actor seemed surprised about the rumor but was excited at the prospect. Notably, before Evans' initial casting, fans had suggested Cena due to physical resemblance with the comic version.
Cena eager to hop into the Marvel universe
Cena said, "If it's out there, if the Captain America people are listening and you're watching right now, I'd totally do it... because I think I'd be a good Captain America... and I've already ruined everyone's childhood, so it can't get any worse!"
Only the worthy can lift the shield
While fans cannot imagine anyone apart from their beloved Evans donning the mantle of Captain America, Cena might be a good fit. He has the physicality of a superhero and has acted in action films like The Marine and 12 Rounds, previously. This author would certainly not mind seeing Cena fling a shield and stand tall in battle clad in Captain America's uniform.
Perhaps not so quickly, John Cena
However much we feel Cena might be good as Captain America, it seems that he himself does not seriously believe he might be a replacement. Further, there have been rumors that the next Captain America might be black or a woman while the Russo brothers hinted that Evans might return for the role. Fans have to wait and see who dons the costume next.
