John Abraham's 'The Diplomat' was rejected by OTT platforms
What's the story
The political thriller film The Diplomat, directed by Shivam Nair and starring John Abraham, has been doing well at the box office despite being initially rejected by several OTT platforms.
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Abraham revealed that the film was "thrown out" by these platforms as they didn't find it "great."
The film, which was released on March 14, has so far grossed ₹18.75 crore.
Initial rejection
'They didn't find it good...they rejected the film'
Abraham detailed how studios opt to play it safe and send films to OTT channels.
He said, "Some OTT channels have refused The Diplomat because they didn't find it great. They didn't find it good. They rejected the film; they threw it out."
Despite the initial hiccup, the film's surprise success has shown the studios and OTT platforms what they missed out on, claimed the Desi Boyz star.
Unexpected success
'Expectations of everybody were zero...'
Abraham emphasized the film's success came as a surprise because no one expected it.
"The best thing about The Diplomat...is expectations of everybody were zero. So, from zero, when you don't go to a two-three, but you go straight to a 10, people are like, 'Oh, wow, this is crazy,'" he said.
"People are telling me, 'Does this studio know that they have got the best film in the last 10 years under their belt?' That's a victory for me."
