A24 has secured the US rights to the movie
A24 has pre-purchased US rights to The Entertainment System is Down in a significant eight-figure deal. The plot of the film centers around passengers on a long-haul flight where the entertainment system fails, leading them to face the horror of boredom. Dunst and Brühl are slated to portray a troubled married couple, while details about other roles remain undisclosed. Filming is scheduled to commence in early 2025.
Östlund's seventh feature film set for 2025 production
The Entertainment System is Down marks Östlund's second English-language film and seventh feature overall. His previous works include The Guitar Mongoloid (2004), Involuntary (2008), Play (2011), Force Majeure (2014), The Square (2017), and Palme d'Or-winning film Triangle of Sadness (2022). The director, along with producer Erik Hemmendorff, has purchased a real-life Boeing 747 for the film's production. The Paris-based Co-Production Office is handling sales for the film.
