What's Jennifer Lopez seeking in her divorce from Ben Affleck
Hollywood star Jennifer Lopez has reportedly filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, two years after their wedding. The 53-year-old singer and actor filed the documents at the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday (local time), without using a lawyer. According to the documents obtained by TMZ, Lopez has waived her claim to spousal support and asked the judge to deny Affleck the same type of payment.
Couple did not have a prenuptial agreement
A source close to the couple revealed that they did not have a prenuptial agreement. This means that money earned by both Affleck and Lopez since their July 2022 marriage in Las Vegas is considered community property between the couple. In her divorce filing, Lopez listed her date of separation from Affleck as April 26, just days before rumors of marital strife began circulating.
Divorce rumors intensified after the 2024 Met Gala
Speculation about the couple's split intensified after the 2024 Met Gala, where Lopez arrived as a co-host without her now ex-partner. The rumors gained further momentum in the following months when the couple started listing their homes for sale. Affleck also purchased a bachelor pad in Los Angeles, adding to the speculation. However, despite their impending divorce, the pair seems to be on amicable terms.
Lopez and Affleck's relationship timeline
Lopez and Affleck first met in the early 2000s and co-starred in two films together: Gigli (2003) and Jersey Girl (2004). They started dating soon after and were engaged by November 2002. However, they postponed their September 2003 wedding and had broken up by January of the following year. After their initial breakup, Affleck married Jennifer Garner in 2005, but they divorced in 2018.
