'Laal Singh Chaddha' vacates April 14 slot, 'Jersey' steps in
Shahid Kapoor's sports drama Jersey was all set to release on December 31 last year, but had to be postponed due to "new COVID-19 guidelines." Now, the actor has revealed Jersey will be coming out on April 14 (Baisakhi), the former premiere date of Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha (LSC). LSC will now get released in August, as per a statement by its makers.
Why does this story matter?
Kapoor had last delivered the humongous hit film, Kabir Singh in 2019. Moreover, Jersey is the remake of a hit Telugu venture by the same name, led by Nani. Thus, expectations are huge from the Gowtam Tinnanuri directorial. After wrapping up the shoot in December 2020, Kapoor has been eagerly waiting for a new release date. And, now that chance has come.
'So so happy,' wrote Kapoor on Twitter
Taking to his Twitter handle, Kapoor revealed the happy news. "So so happy to announce that our beloved film #Jersey will be releasing worldwide in theatres on the 14th of April 2022. See you in the theatres," his tweet read. Notably, this announcement came just half an hour after the official Twitter handle of Aamir Khan Productions announced LSC had been delayed once again.

Khan's ambitious project will now release during Independence Day week
If LSC has freed up the April premiere slot, when is it coming? Well, as per the latest statement, the official Hindi remake of Tom Hanks' iconic Forrest Gump has locked the August 11 date. This has forced Adipurush team to push its release. As the reason behind the move, makers said that they would not be able to finish LSC by April.
We'll have 'Jersey' v/s 'KGF 2' v/s 'Beast' this April
However, netizens think that Khan has moved LSC ahead in order to avoid a clash with two huge pan-Indian flicks releasing around that time. Both Kannada star Yash's KGF 2 and Tamil actor Vijay's Beast are slated to release on April 14. Now, Jersey will be competing with these mega-budgeters for the theater-goers' attention. Will it succeed? Only time will tell.
