Jennifer Garner-Ben Affleck's daughter adopts new name; reveals trans identity
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck's 15-year-old daughter, previously known as Seraphina Rose, has come out as trans. Sporting a black pantsuit and a buzz-cut hairstyle, they reportedly announced their new name Fin at a memorial service for Garner's father last weekend. Although Fin had been photographed with their short hair earlier in February, the funeral marked the first occasion where they publicly introduced themselves with their new name.
'Hello, my name is Fin Affleck...'
The memorial service was held in honor of William Jack Garner, Garner's father, who recently passed away at 85. The event was live-streamed on Facebook where the teenage child of prominent Hollywood actors introduced themselves by saying, "Hello my name is Fin Affleck," and then read Chapter 16, Verse 8 from the Book of Proverbs, Bible: "Better is a little with righteousness than a large income with injustice."

Fin is the middle child of ex-couple Garner and Affleck
Fin is the second child of Garner and Affleck, with an older sister named Violet Anne who is 18 years old and a younger brother named Samuel, who is 12. Despite their separation in 2015 and divorce in 2018, the actors continue to maintain an amicable relationship. In 2022, Affleck married singer-actor Jennifer Lopez.
Fin's announcement attracted mixed reactions on social media
Fin's decision to come out has stirred mixed reactions on social media. While some netizens showed support for their courage in making such a decision at a young age, others expressed disappointment, particularly regarding the timing of the announcement. One user remarked, "How disrespectful to do this at a funeral." Some resorted to mocking the situation, with one commenting, "Ben has been in more rehabs and relationships than I can count. He is probably encouraging her to be a him."
One of many celebrity children exploring their identities
With this revelation, the 15-year-old has now joined a growing number of celebrity kids exploring their identities. Starting with their step-sibling, JLo initially disclosed daughter Emme Maribel Muñiz's gender-neutral pronouns to an audience during their joint performance in 2022. Similarly, Jamie Lee Curtis shared that her daughter Ruby came out as transgender in 2021. Former NBA player Dwyane Wade also discussed his daughter Zaya coming out as transgender during an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show in February 2020.
