Jennifer Aniston is producing modern reboot of '9 to 5'
The 1980 satirical comedy-drama film 9 to 5 is getting a modern "reimagining," multiple reports have confirmed. The modern reboot is set to be produced by Hollywood star Jennifer Aniston alongside her Echo Films partner Kristin Hahn. The project is backed by 20th Century Studios, with the draft being penned by Hollywood screenwriter Diablo Cody. It's unclear if Aniston will also headline the film.
This is what the original film was about
IMDb explains the film as, "Three employees of a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot find a way to turn the tables on him." Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dabney Coleman memorably starred in this Colin Higgins directorial. Earlier, the film also inspired a namesake sitcom that was telecast on ABC from 1982 to 1983. The film is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
A reboot was considered earlier, too
This is not the first time a 9 to 5 "reimagining" has been conceived. A similar idea was developed earlier too, but it couldn't materialize. In 2019, Parton had revealed, "They have dropped that whole idea. I don't think we are going to do the sequel. We never could get the script where it was enough different than the first one."
