Jaya Prada likens Alauddin Khilji of 'Padmaavat' with Azam Khan
The evil character of Sultan Alauddin Khilji in 'Padmaavat' brought back some horrific memories for actor-turned-politician Jaya Prada. While talking to the media, she said that Khilji's vicious acts in the film reminded her of the time when Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan harassed her during an election. The character of Khilji was essayed by Ranveer Singh in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial.
Here's the statement by Jaya Prada
"When I was watching Padmaavat, Khilji's character reminded me of Azam Khan ji, how he had harassed me during elections when I was contesting," Jaya Prada said.
The rivalry has been long standing between the two leaders
The conflict between Jaya and Khan is not new. The Uttar Pradesh leaders have been at loggerheads since 2009. Jaya had previously accused Khan of resorting to foul play to malign her image on several occasions. She had even called him out for circulating her 'cheap' posters to sabotage her political career.
Meanwhile, Ranveer garnered unanimous praise for his portrayal of Khilji
Meanwhile, it was Ranveer who stood out in Bhansali's magnum opus for his devilish act. He outshone his co-stars Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor who played Rani Padmini and Maharawal Ratan Singh respectively. The period film, which was marred by controversy before its release, took the box office by storm and did a business of over Rs. 280 crore.
