'Jawan,' 'Pathaan,' 'Stree 2': Bollywood's top five openings
Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao's horror-comedy sequel, Stree 2, has recorded the second-highest opening day collection in Bollywood history, per Koimoi. The film raked in a whopping ₹64.8 crore on its first day of release, despite facing competition from Khel Khel Mein and Vedaa. Only Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan (2023) has had a bigger opening day, with collections of ₹75 crore.
'Jawan' holds record for biggest opening day
Jawan, which also marked the Bollywood debut of South Indian actor Nayanthara and director Atlee, holds the record for the biggest opening day in Bollywood. The film collected ₹75 crore on its first day of release, including ₹65 crore in Hindi and ₹5 crore each in Tamil and Telugu. This was Khan's second biggest blockbuster of 2023, after Pathaan.
'Pathaan' and 'War' also among top five openings
Ranbir Kapoor and Anil Kapoor's Animal is third on the list, with first-day collections of ₹63.8 crore. A sequel, Animal Park, is in development. Khan and Deepika Padukone's Pathaan (2023) earned ₹57 crore on its opening day, making it the fourth biggest opening in Bollywood. It also starred John Abraham and Salman Khan in a cameo role. Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff's War 2, with ₹53.35 is reportedly in the fifth place.
