Janhvi sends birthday wishes to real "Kargil girl" Gunjan Saxena
It is retired Indian Air Force officer Gunjan Saxena's birthday today, and Janhvi Kapoor, who will be portraying her in her biopic Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, decided to make it more special. How? The actress penned a heart-warming post for her, lauding her brave and inspiring story. "You're an inspiration and a hero, without ever having tried to be," Janhvi wrote on Instagram.
Janhvi thanked Gunjan for teaching "the true meaning of bravery"
Janhvi shared a picture of herself dressed in the uniform from the sets, as she posed with the real Gunjan. In the caption, she wished the officer, and expressed her gratitude towards the Air Force pilot for teaching her "the true meaning of bravery, the importance of working hard and sincerely and for paving the way for millions of women in our country."

Recently, the makers of Kargil Girl shared some posters of the movie on social media, giving glimpses of Gunjan's arduous journey in becoming the first Indian woman in combat. "With unabashed courage & bravery, she made her domain in a man's world. Gunjan Saxena - #TheKargilGirl, releasing on 13th March, 2020," producer Karan Johar wrote on Twitter while unveiling one of the posters.

Gunjan was the first woman to be awarded Shaurya Chakra
For the uninitiated, Gunjan played an important role in evacuating injured soldiers in Kargil war (1999). She was duly helped by Lieutenant Srividya Rajan in her mission. Gunjan was also the first woman to be rewarded Shaurya Chakra. An award that is given to civilians as well as military personnel, Shaurya Chakra comes after the Ashoka Chakra and the Kirti Chakra.
'Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl' has a powerful star cast
Apart from Janhvi, Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Vineet Kumar Singh, Angad Bedi and Manav Vij in pivotal roles. While Pankaj plays the role of Gunjan's father, Angad will essay the role of her brother, Anshuman Saxena. "Angad plays an army officer, like Gunjan's real-life brother, while Pankaj Tripathi plays their father," a source had told Mumbai Mirror.
The movie has been shot in Lucknow and Georgia
Helmed by Sharan Sharma, the movie has been extensively shot in the locales of Lucknow and Georgia. While a major portion was shot in Lucknow's cantonment area, the crew went to Georgia to shoot the scenes revolving around the Kargil war in the movie.
