All the new developments in James Gunn's 'Creature Commandos'
James Gunn, the acclaimed director behind Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and DC's The Suicide Squad, is all set to launch a new interconnected fictional universe for DC. This ambitious project will kick off with Creature Commandos, an adult animated series about misfit monsters. Gunn aims to embrace the diversity and unique character of DC through this venture. From the premiere date to the streaming platform, here's everything about the show.
'Creature Commandos': A glimpse into the monstrous world
Creature Commandos, set to premiere on December 5 on Max, delves into the lives of monstrous characters grappling with their dark pasts. The series features an ensemble cast including Frankenstein (David Harbour), the Bride of Frankenstein (Indira Varma), Doctor Phosphorous (Alan Tudyk), the fishlike Nina Mazursky (Zoe Chao), Weasel and G.I. Robot (both Sean Gunn). These characters are assigned dangerous missions by government officials Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) and Rick Flag, Sr. (Frank Grillo).
Gunn's unique approach to character development
Gunn has taken inspiration from acclaimed author Mary Shelley's original novel Frankenstein for the characterization of Frankenstein and the Bride in Creature Commandos. He said, "Frankenstein is this incredibly well-spoken intellectual but is still driven by his rage and his anger and his inability to really be a human being, and the inability for the one that he loves not loving him back."
Gunn's upcoming projects with DC
Apart from Creature Commandos, Gunn is also working on the post-production of next year's Superman and Peacemaker Season 2. He believes that Creature Commandos will serve as a perfect appetizer for what's to come from DC. "There are a ton of fun references to other DC stuff, a bunch of hints for things that are coming. So I think it's just an extraordinarily fun way to start," he added.
