'Jailer' actor Vinayakan out on bail; why was he arrested
Popular Malayalam actor Vinayakan was arrested on Tuesday. As per reports, the actor was in an inebriated state, and created a ruckus at the police station, following which the Ernakulam North Police nabbed him. He was later released on bail. Vinayakan is best known for playing the primary villain's character in Rajinikanth starrer Jailer, which was theatrically released in August.
Why does this story matter?
Vinayakan is a famous name in the Malayalam and Tamil film industries. He is also a former dancer and a composer. A recipient of the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor, Vinayakan gained widespread recognition after he played Varman's role in Jailer directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. Recently, he courted trouble after several complaints were received against him raised by his wife and neighbors.
Vinayakan was called to the station for questioning
Per reports quoting police sources, Vinayakan was called to the Ernakulam North Police Station for questioning after complaints were received against him. However, when he reached the police station, he appeared to be in a drunken state, misbehaved, and obstructed operations at the station. "The action was taken because he (Vinakayan) behaved indecently...He was drunk, is what we understand," said an official.
Dispute with wife at the center of it all
While the exact reason isn't known, reports suggest the complaints were concerning a dispute between the actor and his wife. "Last day his wife called the station complaining about Vinayakan. When police arrived, he shouted at them, and at 10:00pm, he created a ruckus at the police station," a senior police officer told Times of India. He was taken for medical examination after arrest.
This is what Vinayakan had to say
When the South Indian actor was asked why he was arrested, he denied being aware of the reason. He claimed he'd gone to the police station to file a complaint himself. Before the episode at the station, officers had been called to his apartment, too.
On his professional front
Vinayakan started his acting career with filmmaker Thampi Kannanthanam's 1995 Malayalam movie Maanthrikam. After his debut, he gained recognition for his performances in titles such as Stop Violence, Vellithira, Chathikkatha Chanthu, and others. Vinayakan will next be seen in Gautham Vasudev Menon's upcoming action spy movie titled Dhruva Natchathiram: Chapter One - Yuddha Kaandam. The film stars Vikram in the lead role.
