'Calming experience'—Jacob Elordi on extreme weight loss for 'The Narrow...'
What's the story
Hollywood actor Jacob Elordi recently lost a lot of weight for his role in the upcoming series The Narrow Road to the Deep North.
The show, directed by Justin Kurzel, shows Elordi as a prisoner of war.
Despite the difficulties of this transformation, Elordi called it "a very calming experience" during a recent press conference at the Berlin Film Festival.
Bonding experience
Elordi found peace and camaraderie in shared weight loss journey
Speaking fondly of his co-stars, whom he referred to as "the lads," Elordi emphasized how their weight loss journey brought them closer.
"There was a peace that sort of came over all of us. You kind of reach a level of love that goes beyond what you're used to because everything gets stripped away," he shared.
"I think there was something quite profound that happened in that it wasn't a complete torture."
Character portrayal
Elordi's role in 'The Narrow Road to the Deep North'
The series is an adaptation of Richard Flanagan's Booker Prize-winning novel. It follows the story of Dorrigo Evans, a Japanese prisoner of war who is forced to work on the Thai-Burma railway.
Elordi's character deals with war trauma, love, and personal transformation over several decades.
The role allowed him to experience deep human connection both on and off-screen, which he called a unique and transformative experience.
Career choices
Elordi's approach to choosing roles and upcoming projects
Elordi also shared his philosophy on choosing roles, saying he is guided by substance.
"I really am just a superfan who is kind of following his heart. I have no real interest in making movies for the sake of entertainment, for making money," he said.
His recent projects include Priscilla, Saltburn, Oh, Canada, and Oscar Isaac-starrer Frankenstein where he will play the Monster.
