Clash alert: It is 'Dhaakad' v/s 'Major' on May 27
With COVID-19 cases declining steadily in India, the movie theater business is looking up and recent releases have shown it's possible to bring "houseful" boards back. So, filmmakers are now confident about releasing their movies in theaters. The latest to receive a (new) launch date is Dhaakad. The Kangana Ranaut-led action thriller will release on May 27. This means it clashes with actioner Major.
What do we know of the announcement?
On Monday (February 28), Ranaut took to her Instagram handle to announce the new release date of her spy action film. "The unstoppable force of #AgentAgni is fast approaching!" read her caption. Directed by Razneesh "Razy" Ghai, the film co-stars Arjun Rampal, Divya Dutta, and Saswata Chatterjee. Sohel Maklai and Deepak Mukut have produced the venture, with Hunar Mukut serving as co-producer.

Earlier, 'Dhaakad' was supposed to be April release
Shot across locations in Mumbai, Budapest, and Bhopal, Dhaakad is touted to focus on the subject of women's exploitation and child trafficking. Ranaut, who plays Agent Agni, will essay multiple looks for her spy avatar, as seen from previous promotional pictures. Earlier, it was set to be an April release, but it seems now the team has decided to postpone things by a month.
Will makers postpone 'Major' again or will we see clash?
Coming to Major, the Adivi Sesh-starrer has suffered repeated delays. In January 2021, Mahesh Babu, who is a co-producer, revealed a July 2021 launch date for the film. However, things got pushed back. Finally, the May 27 date was locked this month. Will makers postpone it again to avoid Dhaakad clash? Major is based on the life of late Indian Army Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan.
'Major' is releasing in Hindi, Telugu, and Malayalam
Meanwhile, launch episode of Ranaut's 'Lock Upp' premiered on Sunday
While we will have to see if Dhaakad and Major go head-to-head at the box office, Ranaut took up another challenge on Sunday (February 27). Ranaut debuted as a reality show host for Ekta Kapoor's show, Lock Upp. In a 2:30-hour-long episode, a total of 13 contestants were charged with various controversial allegations and put inside Ranaut's special lock up.
