It is always a pleasure to work, says Neena Gupta
There is nothing else that gives her more pleasure than work, says veteran actor Neena Gupta, who has gone from strength to strength in her career spanning almost four decades. In the last few years, Neena has become one of the go-to senior performers when it comes to unique characters, such as Badhaai Ho!, as well as web series like Panchayat and Masaba Masaba.
Neena plays a 90-year-old grumpy matriarch in 'Sardar Ka Grandson'
In her latest film, Sardar Ka Grandson, which released on Netflix this Tuesday, Neena plays Sardar, the 90-year-old grumpy matriarch who wishes to see her home in Lahore one last time. "When I heard the story, I loved it. Sometimes when somebody is narrating, you start visualizing it. Also, it is rare to get a role like this at my age," Neena said.
'I chose to slow down to enjoy my marital life'
Reflecting on life and career, the 62-year-old actor said that during her heyday she would work round-the-clock and chose to slow down to enjoy her marital life only to realize that she loves what she does. "I worked. I had a child to look after. I had no time for myself. So when I got married, I decided to enjoy family life," she said.
My work gives me more pleasure than anything else: Neena
"The off-time made me realize that my enjoyment is my work. I am a good housewife. I can cook, can polish shoes, and can fulfill other duties as a wife. But my work gives me more pleasure than anything else and that's why I work," Neena said. The actor, who is currently in Mukteshwar, said she is looking forward to doing good work.
Neena has lots of projects lined up for release
Next up for Neena is Goodbye, also starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rashmika Mandanna, followed by a sophomore season of Masaba Masaba (Netflix) and Panchayat (Amazon Prime Video), and Dial 100, a film alongside Manoj Bajpayee and Sakshi Tanwar. Neena said she has also finished writing her book. Directed by debutante Kaashvie Nair, Sardar Ka Grandson also stars Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh.
