'No layered roles': Ishaan on career impact of youthful looks
Ishaan Khatter, who recently made his Hollywood debut with The Perfect Couple, has opened up about the challenges he faces in the Indian film industry. In an interview with The Indian Express, the 28-year-old actor said that he often receives feedback about his youthful appearance, which has impacted the kind of roles he is offered. Here are more details on this.
'I look very young,' says Khatter
Khatter said, "The most consistent feedback I've received is that I look very young." He added, "For better or for worse, we don't write a lot of complex and layered roles for young faces and young actors here." The actor said he was fortunate to have started his career with international projects like Majid Majidi's Beyond the Clouds and Mira Nair's A Suitable Boy.
Khatter talks about his career strategy
Khatter said, "I have never been overly strategized. I've also largely been lucky and had such opportunities." He added, "I have always strived for my work to be diverse, I was never attached to making a name in any one particular industry. Even now when I am asked if I want to work more in the West or here, my honest answer is wherever the good work is."
Khatter's Hollywood debut took over a year to complete
Khatter's full-fledged Hollywood debut, The Perfect Couple, took over a year to complete due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. "We started shooting early in March, the first day of shoot was with myself and Eve, it was March 3, 2023 and we happened to wrap it in January 2024," he said. The show, also starring Dakota Fanning and Nicole Kidman, is available on Netflix.
