Irish show 'Blood' gets Indian version backed by Disney+ Hotstar
Disney+ Hotstar is set to launch Blood, an Indian adaptation of the Irish show by the same name. While Mihir Desai is at the helm of the project, Gurmmeet Singh is on board as the showrunner. The premiere date has not been announced yet. The English-language psychological thriller had started airing in 2018 and the show got its second series in April-May 2020.
Why does this story matter?
The Irish show was directed by Lisa Mulcahy, Hannah Quinn, Maurice Sweeney, and Laura Way and starred Carolina Main. It has won several Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTA) trophies and received numerous nominations, too. If this isn't interesting enough, Desai being signed as the director of this series excites us all the more. After all, who can forget his exemplary work in Mirzapur?
What did Disney+ Hotstar say about the show?
According to the makers, the show will be "an intimate drama about familial bonds, memories, and the past's impact on the present." "The demand for entertainment is rapidly evolving, and viewers' want for new-fangled content is expanding. We are elated to announce the Indian adaptation of award-winning drama Blood, thereby, further strengthening our thriller offerings," said Gaurav Banerjee, Content Head, Disney+ Hotstar.

'Blood' is a quintessential universal story, said makers
Namit Sharma, CEO of Dreamers & Doers Co., said Blood is "dark, delicious and deceptive." "Blood is a quintessential universal story - where fractured family dynamics come out to play with the matriarch's death as a trigger. Our showrunner Gurmmeet Singh and director Mihir Desai have crafted the series with passion and care and we couldn't be more proud of this fact," Sharma added.
