'Invincible' creator explains why live-action movie is taking so long
The live-action adaptation of Robert Kirkman's popular comic book series Invincible has been in the works for several years—to be precise, seven long years. Despite the delay, Kirkman has recently confirmed that the project is still under development. The creator spoke about the upcoming film at the San Diego Comic-Con, emphasizing that the high standards set by the animated series have necessitated extra care in its production.
Kirkman insisted 'Invincible' movie 'has to be perfect'
Kirkman stated that the Invincible live-action adaptation is being meticulously crafted to ensure it meets the high expectations set by the animated series. "We're still working with Universal," he said. "I think the movie absolutely has to be perfect. And so it's taking a lot of time, like getting the pieces aligned and getting everything to work so that we can come out and make it as good as it can possibly be."
Movie to provide a different experience: Kirkman
Kirkman further explained in the interview that the live-action film will offer a unique experience compared to the animated series, while still staying true to the essence of Invincible. "It has to provide a different experience, it has to still be true to Invincible in some interesting ways. But it has to be its own thing. It has to stand on its own," he said.
Condensing narrative for film a 'fun challenge'
Kirkman acknowledged that the process of condensing the narrative for the film version of Invincible is a significant factor in its prolonged development. He described this as both "frustrating" and a "fun challenge." In contrast to the animated series, which allows for creative deviations and deeper exploration of the lore, the feature film must tell a complete story within a limited runtime.
