New poster: Kamal Haasan returns as Senapathy in 'Indian 2'
Amid much anticipation, the sequel to the 1996 blockbuster Indian, titled Indian 2, is gearing up for a theatrical release in June. On Sunday, coinciding with Tamil New Year Puthandu, the makers dropped a new poster featuring the lead actor Kamal Haasan. Haasan will reprise his iconic role as Senapathy, the aging freedom fighter turned vigilant crusader against corruption. The film is helmed by S. Shankar.
'Indian 2' poster reveals Haasan's unique looks
The newly unveiled poster of Indian 2 presents Haasan in a khaki outfit and a white mundu, set against a backdrop of Indian flags. The caption accompanying the poster reads: "Senapathy is all set to resurrect with zero tolerance in INDIAN-2. Gear up for the epic sequel in cinemas from June 2024. Consider it a red alert wherever injustice prevails. #Indian2, (sic)." This has further fueled anticipation for the film's release.

'Indian 2' to depict Senapathy's fight against injustice
The upcoming film is set to depict Senapathy's return to India after uncovering widespread corruption and social injustice through online platforms. The movie features a star-studded cast including S. J. Suryah, Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Nedumudi Venu, Vivek, Kalidas Jayaram, and Gulshan Grover, among others. Co-produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies, the narrative will follow Senapathy as he takes on the mantle of fighting against these societal issues in his homeland.
Manisha Koirala's participation in 'Indian 2' still uncertain
There is ongoing speculation that Manisha Koirala may also feature in Indian 2 . Koirala played a crucial role as Ishwarya in the original film and it is suggested she may reprise a brief role. However, there has been no official confirmation yet. Meanwhile, Koirala is currently gearing up for her return to screens with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi, slated for premiere on Netflix on May 1.
'Indian 3' will follow 'Indian 2'
The creators of Indian 2 have launched posters in Tamil, Telugu, English, and Hindi languages, with the film titled Indian 2, Bharateeyudu 2, and Hindustani 2, respectively. The film is currently undergoing post-production and is slated for a June 2024 release. However, a specific release date has not yet been confirmed. Meanwhile, in a recent interview, Haasan officially announced the third chapter in his successful Indian franchise, after the completion of the second chapter.
