BeerBiceps to Deepika's joke: 'India's Got Latent's 5 biggest scandals
What's the story
Comedian Samay Raina's talent show, India's Got Latent, has been mired in controversies—thanks to its unfiltered content.
The edgy "talent" show has made headlines time and again but for all the wrong reasons.
From insensitive remarks on Deepika Padukone's mental health advocacy to the recent legal complaint against YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, India's Got Latent has been at the center of multiple scandals.
Here are five major controversies that rocked the show so far.
Controversy #1
Allahbadia's indecent comment and subsequent legal trouble
One of the biggest controversies yet involves Allahbadia, aka BeerBiceps, who asked a contestant an inappropriate question about parental intercourse during his stint on the show.
The panel, including Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, and Apoorva Makhija (The Rebel Kid), not only failed to condemn his remarks but even encouraged the conversation.
They were later booked for "promoting obscenity" and using "abusive" language.
Meanwhile, Allahbadia apologized for his remarks on X, saying, "Comedy is not my forte."
Controversy #2
Mocking Padukone's mental health advocacy
Another controversy erupted when a female contestant cracked a joke on Padukone's depression story.
She said: "Deepika recently became a mother, right? Great, now she knows what real depression looks like."
This invited widespread criticism of the show and its judges—which included Tanmay Bhat and Raghu Ram—for trivializing mental health issues.
To the backlash, Raina tweeted: "Guys it's not fair. You cannot outrage on Twitter. Please outrage on my YouTube comments section so there is some ad revenue at least."
Controversy #3, #4
Controversial performance and 'dog meat' joke led to FIR
The show had come under fire over a segment involving a contestant, Priyanka Halder, and her friend Mohammad Adil. In the segment, Halder's dress was ripped by Adil to convert it into a cut-out dress, which invited criticism from netizens.
In another incident, an FIR was filed against contestant Jessy Nabam from Arunachal Pradesh for making derogatory remarks about her state's people.
She joked about people in Arunachal eating dog meat and even their pets at times—leading to legal action.
Controversy #5
Uorfi Javed's walkout over offensive remarks
In another episode, internet sensation Uorfi Javed walked out of the show after a few contestants made offensive remarks about her personal life.
In a December 2024 Instagram Story, she expressed her disgust, stating: "I think I missed the memo, nowadays people think it's cool to abuse someone or just slut shame someone for some views. I'm sorry but I'm not ok with anyone abusing me."
