Independence Day 2019: 5 Bollywood movies that evoke patriotism
Bollywood movies that are themed around patriotism have always been popular among audiences. The whole package, comprising the dialogues, their storylines and even music, fills us with a feeling of pride and love for the country. With the 72nd Independence Day around the corner, here's a list of Bollywood's five most patriotic offerings, which instil the feeling of nationalism and devotion towards one's country.
'Raazi' is about keeping your country above everything, including yourself
Starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal in lead, Raazi was based on Harinder Sikka's novel Calling Sehmat. The movie revolved around an Indian spy (Bhatt) who was married to a Pakistani Army officer (Kaushal) prior to the Indo-Pak war in 1971. Raazi depicted the selfless spirit of patriotism, which was aptly summarized in the dialogue: Watan Ke Aage Kuch Bhi Nahi, Khud Bhi Nahi.
'Uri: The Surgical Strike' talks about the new, rebellious India
Starring Vicky Kaushal in the lead, Uri: The Surgical Strike was based on India's surgical strike across LOC in 2016, in response to the terror attacks at Uri. Uri resonated a sense of nationalism and depicted the perfect picture of the new, rebellious India, which doesn't believe in sitting back. Just like the surgical strike, its Bollywood adaptation also invited adulation from the nation.
'Rang De Basanti' inspires us to make our country perfect
Aamir Khan-starrer Rang De Basanti has been among the top favorite patriotic movies. The flick touched a raw nerve by showcasing that no country is perfect, and that we have to put in efforts to make it one. Also, one can't deny that this Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra-directorial not just brought the candle-light march in fashion, but also gave the audiences plenty to think about.
'Chak De India' gives you hope not to give up
Chak De India narrates the story of an ex-hockey captain, Kabir Khan, played by Shah Rukh Khan, who despite being termed a traitor, trains the Indian Women's hockey team for the World Championship. The movie shows Kabir's selfless love for his country, who doesn't give up despite facing religious humiliation, and keeps training his squad, aiming to turn it into a championship unit.
'Lakshya' is a story of determination and will power
Lakshya, starring Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead, is a coming-of-age story of an aimless college student, who ends up joining the Indian Army, becoming Lieutenant (later acting Captain) Karan Shergill. Set against a fictionalized backdrop of the 1999 Kargil War, the film focused on the direction-less youths, and showed us that with determination and passion, no goal is unachievable.
