'Jab Harry Met...': Imtiaz Ali would have made these changes
Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali recently discussed his 2017 film Jab Harry Met Sejal, which is widely regarded as one of the biggest flops of Shah Rukh Khan's career. In an interview with Mid-Day, Ali admitted that he failed to fully utilize Khan's superstar status. He also revealed how the actor's approachability prevented him from considering his immense popularity during the filmmaking process.
Ali says he didn't factor in Khan's stardom
Ali told the portal that he has always approached filmmaking in the same way as television and theater. "There is a story and there are actors and through these actors, you tell the story. The story comes first and the story is the only thing." "The fact that he is such a humongous star is not something that I had not calculated or made provision for at all. I had written and directed the film like I would for anybody."
Ali would have added flashbacks
Ali said, "I feel that Shah Rukh is the biggest star I worked with, but he is so accessible person that he never gives you the impression that 'I am somebody." "I would have written and showcased the film differently. I wouldn't have made it very filmy, but I would have added flashbacks and scenes where Shah Rukh could be used to the best of his strength, both as an actor and a star. I didn't figure that out."
'Jab Harry Met Sejal' received negative reviews from critics, audience
Jab Harry Met Sejal was panned by both critics and audiences. The film marked the third collaboration between Khan and Anushka Sharma, following Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008) and Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012). Despite its star-studded cast, the film failed to impress at the box office. The film is now streaming on Netflix.
