'Happy Patel': Imran Khan portrays 'secret agent' in comeback film
After a hiatus of nine years, actor Imran Khan is making his Bollywood comeback with the film Happy Patel, PeepingMoon reported. The comedy movie is being produced by his maternal uncle, Aamir Khan, under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions. The filming for Happy Patel has already begun in Goa. Imran will be seen playing the lead role in this film which promises to deliver a unique comedic experience reminiscent of his earlier work.
Why does this story matter?
Happy Patel is one of five films in the pipeline from Aamir Khan Productions. The other films include RS Prasanna's Sitaare Zameen Par, Rajkumar Santoshi's Lahore 1947, Sunil Pandey's Pritam Pyare, and Junaid Khan's remake of One Day. To recall, Khan began his acting career as a child artist in Aamir's 1988 film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. His last lead role was in the 2015 film, Katti Batti.
Vir Das to direct 'Happy Patel'
Actor-comedian Vir Das—who previously co-starred with Khan in the 2011 hit Delhi Belly—is stepping behind the camera for the first time to direct Happy Patel. This marks a new chapter in Das's successful 17-year acting stint. The film also features Mona Singh, Mithila Palkar, and Sharib Hashmi in prominent roles. Meanwhile, the identity of the female lead, opposite Khan, is yet to be revealed.
Aamir will play don; while his nephew portrays secret agent
The film is scheduled for a theatrical release later this year, reportedly. According to sources, Aamir will be making a brief cameo appearance in the movie, marking his first on-screen collaboration with his nephew. Described as "playing the role of a Don," the Bollywood superstar's cameo will add to the intrigue. Additionally, Khan will star as a secret agent in the movie, which is being directed, written, and co-produced by Das, as mentioned by a source.
Khan was to make his acting comeback with a series
Khan had originally planned to make his acting comeback with a web series on Disney+ Hotstar, directed by Abbas Tyrewala. In the series, he was set to portray an intelligence officer. However, due to corporate restructuring involving Reliance Industries and The Walt Disney Company, the project was shelved. Reflecting on this change of plans, Khan expressed relief as he didn't want to play a character who resorts to violence.
