Imran would 'commit murder' to protect daughter from teacher's punishment
Former Bollywood actor Imran Khan recently spoke against the use of corporal punishment in schools. In an interview with the We Are Yuvaa YouTube channel, Khan said that he would "possibly be driven to commit murder" if a teacher raised their hand on his daughter, Imara. The 40-year-old actor also shared his personal experiences with caning during his school years and expressed strong opposition to such practices.
'Caning was a regular thing in school'
Khan recalled his time at Bombay Scottish in Bombay, where he said teachers believed all behavior could be corrected with caning. He described the regularity of the beatings as something that had deeply affected him. "So, you wear the wrong color socks to school? Caning! You forgot to bring a book to school? Caning! You haven't done your homework? Guess what? Still more caning!" Khan said.
'I'd see red if teacher raised hand against my child'
Khan further expressed his concern for his daughter's well-being in the current education system. "As I think about it today, I was an eight-year-old, nine-year-old kid. Younger than my own daughter. And, if I imagined a teacher today to raise their hand and hit my child, I would see red." "I would be driven possibly to commit murder, to witness someone assaulting my child like that. So, yeah, I was not able to manage the school system."
Khan also addressed issue of sexual violence in films
Khan also addressed the issue of sexual violence in films. He stated that as a parent, he would now think twice before participating in a scene depicting such violence. Also sharing parental advice, he said, "The best parenting advice I got...is that we tend to look at children as somehow less than human... So yeah, treat a child as you would treat another human being." Khan is reportedly currently considering a comeback, but is yet to announce a project.
