'Katti Batti's failure influenced Imran Khan's decision to quit Bollywood
Imran Khan, known for his breakout role in Jaane Tu....Ya Jaane Na, has been missing from the Bollywood scene for some time, with fans desperately awaiting his return. His last appearance was in the romantic drama Katti Batti, alongside Kangana Ranaut, which unfortunately did not perform well at the box office. In a recent interview with Film Companion, Khan finally revealed that the poor reception of Katti Batti influenced his decision to step away from acting.
Khan's gradual exit from Bollywood post-'Katti Batti'
When asked if the failure of Katti Batti was the trigger for his departure, Khan responded, "Yes. At that moment I didn't consider it in that way and I never said, 'Okay, on this day, I'm done, I quit.'" "It was kind of a process of a week becoming a month, a month becoming three and becoming a year, and a year becoming two where I said, 'Okay, I won't do this because my heart's not in it.'
Khan's views on the film industry's success metrics
Khan expressed his thoughts on the film industry's heavy reliance on financial success as a measure of achievement. He highlighted that earnings from films, endorsements, appearances, and even minor events often become the primary yardstick of success. Despite being part of the industry, Khan clarified that his passion for cinema was not driven by monetary gain. Notably, he comes from a film family as he is the nephew of superstar Aamir Khan.
'Life took me in another direction'
Khan further added, "Effectively these past 10 years I have spent kind of grappling with the larger questions of who am I, what do I want to do, what do I want to be." "A series of life circumstances led me to a place where I was not getting the fulfillment." "In my 30s, life took me in another direction," he added.
Khan may or may not return to acting
Earlier, Khan hinted at a potential return to acting but didn't confirm anything. As quoted by Instant Bollywood, he said, "I don't have a clear answer, but I am reading scripts and having creative conversations with filmmakers. So hopefully next year." Apart from Jaane Tu...., his other memorable movies are Delhi Belly and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, which helped him earn a loyal fan base that has been rooting for him even after all these years.
