IIFA Utsavam 2024: Aishwarya, Vikram, Mani Ratnam win big
The IIFA Utsavam, the first day of the IIFA 2024 Awards, took place in Abu Dhabi on Friday night. Attended by Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Chiranjeevi, among others, it celebrated the best of South Indian Cinema in the past year. Rajinikanth's Jailer and Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan: II dominated the awards. Take a look at the major winners.
Rai Bachchan, Ratnam, Rahman among winnners
Rai Bachchan bagged the Best Actress award for her role as Nandini in Ponniyin Selvan: II. Ratnam, the film's director, took home the Best Director (Tamil) award, while AR Rahman won the Best Music Direction (Tamil) award for his work on the same film. The night also saw legendary actor Chiranjeevi being honored with the Outstanding Achievement in Indian Cinema Award. Samantha Ruth Prabhu was named the Woman of the Year in Indian Cinema.
Nani and SJ Suryah also won big
SJ Suryah bagged the Best Performance in a Negative Role (Tamil) for Mark Antony, while Shine Tom Chacko won it in Telugu for Dasara. Best Picture (Tamil) went to Jailer, Best Actor (Telugu) was clinched by Nani (Dasara), while Vikram won Best Actor (Tamil) for PSII. Priyadarshan was honored with Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema, while Rishab Shetty was bestowed with Outstanding Excellence in Kannada cinema. Best Performance in a Negative Role (Malayalam) went to Arjun Radhakrishnan (Kannur Squad).
Bollywood Awards will be given on Saturday
The second day (Saturday) will honor the best Bollywood films of 2023. It will be hosted by Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan. Shahid Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal, among others, will perform at the ceremony. The gala will conclude on Sunday with an event called IIFA Rocks featuring live performances from artists such as Honey Singh, Shilpa Rao, and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.
