'Latent' row: Ashish Chanchlani withdraws from hosting 'Captain America' screening
What's the story
Popular YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani has withdrawn from hosting a special screening of Marvel's Captain America: Brave New World in Mumbai on Valentine's Day.
The decision comes after recent legal troubles with obscenity charges against him and other guests on the show India's Got Latent (IGL).
Chanchlani attributed health issues as the reason, writing on Instagram, "Hello doston (friends), I am not keeping well...unfortunately I won't be able to attend & host the screening."
Legal troubles
'IGL' controversy: Obscenity charges and police investigations
The obscenity charges are based on a "sex" joke made by Ranveer Allahbadia, aka Beerbiceps, during an episode that had Chanchlani, Apoorva Mukhija (The Rebel Kid), host Samay Raina, among others in the panel.
The Mumbai Police recorded statements of seven people including Chanchlani on Thursday.
ANI also reported that Assam Police have issued fresh summons to Chanchlani and others based on a complaint alleging promotion of obscenity.
Apologies issued
'IGL' participants apologized and cooperated with authorities
In light of the backlash, Allahbadia apologized for his remarks, calling them a "lack of judgment."
He expressed regret in a video post, saying, "I don't want to be the kind of person who takes that responsibility lightly. Family is the last thing that I would ever disrespect. I need to use this platform better."
Meanwhile, Raina said he has removed all IGL episodes from YouTube and promised full cooperation with investigative agencies.
