'IF': John Krasinski-Ryan Reynolds applaud Steve Carell's voice acting
John Krasinski's latest directorial venture, IF, has been garnering attention for its star-studded voice cast, especially Steve Carell's portrayal of his character, Blue. In an interview for Entertainment Weekly's Around the Table video series, both Krasinski and lead actor Ryan Reynolds singled out Carell for his heartfelt performance. Reynolds lauded Carell saying he was "creating micro facial expressions with his voice," a feat he found "pretty amazing." The film was released on May 17.
Carell's role in 'IF' was tailored specifically for him
Krasinski revealed that he had specifically written the character of Blue for his old friend Carell. "When I was writing Blue, I was writing it for Steve as Steve," Krasinski stated. He further explained that Carell's willingness to be vulnerable made him the ideal choice for the role. "He's willing to open himself up, and that's why I think the whole Blue scene might be my favorite scene in the movie," Krasinski shared.
'I just adore this guy': Reynolds on Carell
Reynolds said, "He is so close to Blue. Everyone kind of equates him with funny, but the man has also done some dark, deep, beautiful, emotional work. I think he's so, I don't know, just even sitting next to him in interviews. I feel lucky. I just adore this guy." In the film, Reynolds essays Cal, the neighbor of Bea (Cailey Fleming); the two develop a bond due to their shared ability to see imaginary friends.
'IF' features a star-studded voice cast
IF boasts an impressive voice cast including George Clooney, Matt Damon, Bradley Cooper, Keegan-Michael Key, Matthew Rhys, Emily Blunt and Phoebe Waller-Bridge among others. This film markes Krasinski's fifth film directorial; he has previously helmed Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, The Hollars, A Quiet Place, and A Quiet Place Part II. Notably, Krasinski and Carell earlier worked together for several years on the hit sitcom The Office.
