'I Am Legend' sequel: Will Smith-Michael B Jordan to collaborate
Will Smith's superhit 2007 venture I Am Legend is getting a sequel, as per reports. The Warner Bros. production's follow-up story is again going to feature Smith alongside Black Panther star Michael B Jordan. In what's going to be their first collaboration, the two actors are set to co-produce, too. To recall, the original story had followed a sole survivor in a post-apocalyptic world.
Warner Bros. will be presenting follow-up of action thriller
According to a report by Deadline, Warner Bros. will be presenting the "next chapter" in this action thriller franchise. Another member of the original team, screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, is also returning. The Oscar winner had adapted Richard Matheson's 1954 book of the same name for the 2007 movie. Goldsman will pen the sequel's story as well as co-produce the film.
No director has been finalized for the project yet
All the deals mentioned above are final. However, what we don't know yet is the plot and who would be the person at the helm of this ship, aka the director. While Francis Lawrence had directed the original, no one has been roped in to direct the follow-up as of now, as per Deadline. No probable release window has been finalized as well.
This was the story of 'I Am Legend'
To jog your memory, I Am Legend featured Smith as a scientist, Robert Neville, who fails to stop the spread of a man-made virus. Years later, he is the lone survivor in New York City because of his immune blood. While half of the others are dead, the other half have turned into zombies. This film went on to collect $585.4 million worldwide.
Announcement comes days after Smith's SAG Award win
Notably, news about this new project comes just days after The Pursuit of Happyness actor bagged the best actor trophy at this year's Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards for King Richard. Before this, he had defeated contenders in the same category at the Golden Globes, too. Interestingly, picking up wins at SAG and Golden Globes magnifies his chances of clinching his first Academy Award.
