Here's how much building Hogwarts will cost in real life
Being a Harry Potter fan, we all kept longing for the Hogwarts admission letter. However, it isn't just lack of magical ability, even recreating the physical building of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is nearly impossible, unless you are a millionaire. Recently, an online rental-network, BigRentz, found that building Hogwarts in real life will cost around $174.5 million or Rs. 1,226 crore.
Did you know education in Hogwarts is free?
Before we break down the cost, here is a fun fact you should know. Education in Hogwarts is free. Three years ago, Harry Potter author, J K Rowling, had tweeted that Ministry of Magic covers all magical education. Another reason to love Hogwarts, perhaps!
Hogwarts castle will cost Rs. 1192.5cr, Quidditch pitch Rs. 7.25cr
Coming to the breakdown, note that the castle structure is 414,000sqft tall and that alone would cost $169,740,00 (Rs. 1192.5cr). Then the eight greenhouses together will cost $175,000 (Rs. 1.2cr). The total cost of Quidditch pitch, where Harry was able to showcase his Seeker skills, will come around $1,031,980 (Rs. 7.25cr). The 5,800sqft Great Hall with those floating candles will cost $870,000 (Rs. 6.1cr).
Hagrid's Hut would cost Rs. 2.8cr, one-eyed witch-passage Rs. 17.5cr
According to BigRentz, the one-eyed witch passage, the secret tunnel through which Harry was able to reach the cellar of Honeydukes Sweetshop in Hogsmeade, will cost $2.5 million (Rs. 17.5cr). And then there is Hagrid's Hut, the social hub of Hagrid, Harry and his friends, which will cost around $400,000 (Rs. 2.8 crore). BigRentz says the hut's cost was based on Rowling's stone-cottage replica.
Real-estate blogger had estimated total cost at Rs. 1,433cr
BigRentz isn't the only one which did the math. In 2013, real-estate blogger David Cross estimated the cost to $204.1mn (Rs. 1,433cr) and this excluded the Quidditch field and Hagrid's Hut. However, both BigRentz and Cross didn't consider the cost of some things inside the castle, such as the moving staircases, or the Prefects' bathroom. In all probability, it'll cross $200mn (Rs. 1,405cr).
Guess how much building Bat Cave will cost? Rs. 2,585cr
Apart from Harry Potter's alma mater, BigRentz also estimated the cost of building other pop culture properties in real life. The Bat Cave, the hidden underground cave beneath Bruce Wayne a.k.a Batman's residence will cost around $368 million or Rs. 2,585 crore to build. The price includes the cave, supercomputer, lab, secret entrance, batwing, and the Batmobile. No doubt Bruce Wayne was filthy rich!
And, the Wall from Game of Thrones isn't cheap either
Among other pricey items comes The Wall from Game of Thrones. And, it isn't cheap either. The Wall Jon Snow crossed along with the Wildings is 700ft tall, and will cost around $167 billion or Rs. 11.73 lakh crore in today's estimates.
