In 2022, all social media could talk about was House of the Dragon stars Olivia Cooke and Emma D'Arcy's "Negroni Spagliato with prosecco in it" video.
However, the unexpected viral fame wasn't all rosy for the actors.
Cooke and D'Arcy recently discussed the meme and how it affected them.
The meme was sparked by D'Arcy's drink choice during a Season 1 promotional video shoot in San Francisco and Cooke's enthusiastic response in her Greater Manchester accent: "Stunnin'!"
Unexpected fame

Cooke expressed frustration over the unexpected fame from the 'Negroni Spagliato' meme, noting, "I did hate it for a very long time."
She told Entertainment Weekly, "It's just sad how you work for eight months and it f*cking gets reduced to a f*cking TikTok."
The actor also shared an anecdote about being recognized in public by her viral catchphrase, recounting a woman greeting her with "Stunnin'!" in a thick Spanish accent.
D'Arcy's reaction
'Hard to know how to react when you become meme'
D'Arcy also shared her thoughts on the experience of becoming a meme. She stated, "I don't have anything illuminating to say on it because it's very hard to know how to react when you become a meme."
Despite their initial reactions, both actors eventually embraced the meme's popularity, attributing its success to their on-screen chemistry in House of the Dragon.
