'HotD' S3 could see Harry Gilby as Daeron Targaryen: Report
The second season of House of the Dragon concluded on a cliffhanger, leaving fans eager for the next installment. Showrunner Ryan Condal has hinted that the upcoming season will introduce a key Targaryen character: Daeron, the youngest son of Alicent (played by Olivia Cooke). Now, according to Fandom Wire, British actor Harry Gilby has been roped in for this role. However, an official confirmation is awaited.
Fans approved of Gilby's casting
Despite the lack of official confirmation, fans have already expressed their approval for Gilby's casting. On X (formerly Twitter), one fan commented, "He honestly looks a lot like Olivia imo." Another added, "This is a great choice. I know him from The Last Kingdom. He's the perfect choice for Daeron!" Yet another stated, "The fact that this was everyone's fan cast for Daeron is crazy."
Gilby's previous works include 'Tolkien' and 'The Last Kingdom'
Gilby is best known for his roles as a young JRR Tolkien in the 2019 film Tolkien and as AEthelstan in the fifth season of The Last Kingdom (2022) and its follow-up film The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die (2023). His performance in these projects has earned him recognition and praise, making him a promising addition to the House of the Dragon cast.
Daeron Targaryen: A key character in 'House of the Dragon'
In the latter half of HotD S2, Alicent inquires about her youngest son Daeron, who is currently serving as a ward in Old Town. Unlike his older brothers Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) and Aemond (Ewan Mitchell), Daeron is portrayed as a clever and kind 16-year-old who is well-liked by all. He owns a dragon named Tessarion and plays a significant role in the Dance of the Dragons.
Daeron to appear in another 'Game of Thrones' spinoff
The second Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will also feature the character of Daeron Targaryen, portrayed by Henry Ashton. However, this series is set a century before the events of Game of Thrones and will premiere in 2025. In this narrative, Prince Daeron Targaryen is the eldest son of King Maekar Targaryen and his wife, Lady Dyanna Dayne, and is known as Daeron the Drunken.
