Delhi HC summons 'IC 814' makers over copyright lawsuit
The Delhi High Court has issued summons to Netflix and the producers of the web series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. This action follows a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by Asian News International (ANI). ANI claims that the series used its footage of the hijacking incident without obtaining the necessary permission.
ANI seeks removal of 4 episodes from the series
ANI is reportedly seeking a court order to remove four episodes from the series due to unauthorized use of its content. The news agency alleges that these specific episodes contain footage that rightfully belongs to them. Advocate Sidhant Kumar appearing for the news agency told the court that the producers had approached ANI to use the footage in 2021 but no agreement was reached.
Case will be heard on Friday
According to a Bar and Bench report, Justice Mini Pushkarna heard the matter briefly on Monday and ordered Matchbox Shots, Benaras Mediaworks, and Netflix to file their replies to ANI's plea for interim relief within two days. The case is listed to be heard on Friday.
Agency's lawyer called the show 'anti-national'
"This show is not only controversial but anti-national and unpatriotic in the eyes of the public. I do not want to be associated with them... Four out of the six episodes use my footage extensively. I engaged a cameraperson in Pakistan who possibly has the only shot of Masood Azhar being released in Pakistan," said Kumar as reported by Bar and Bench.
