Rani Mukerji's 'Hichki' is going places, this time to Russia
Bollywood film "Hichki", which stars Rani Mukerji, is set for a release in Russia a day after Teachers' Day. The film, directed by Siddharth P Malhotra, will be dubbed in Russian and is scheduled to hit the Russian theaters on September 6. The Yash Raj Films project, produced by Maneesh Sharma, is a story of an aspiring teacher (Rani), who suffers from Tourette syndrome.
Hichki was recently released at Shanghai International Film Festival
"Hichki", which had an all-India release in March, was recently showcased at the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) where it received a standing ovation from the audience.
The film's subject is an 'extremely relevant' one: Malhotra
Malhotra said "Hichki" has a universal appeal and the response that it is getting in overseas territories is validating that the film's subject is an "extremely relevant" one. "It's really heartening that 'Hichki' will now release in Russia. It professes the message of the fact of making your worst obstacle within you and convert it into your biggest strength," he said.
Indian audience, however, expressed mixed reviews over Hichki
Hichki was made with a reasonable budget of Rs. 20 crore. While some claim the movie is inspired from "To Sir With Love", the film is actually an adaptation of Bran Cohen's autobiography "Front of the Class". Although Rani's acting was lauded remarkably, critics found the storyline a little predictable. Nevertheless, with its worldwide success, Malhotra could be seen smiling from ear to ear.
