Has Swara Bhasker's X account been locked over copyright claim
What's the story
Bollywood actor Swara Bhasker recently took to Instagram to share that her X (formerly Twitter) account had been "permanently suspended."
She posted screenshots of the platform's team reaching out to her about "copyright infringement" related to her Republic Day posts. Expressing frustration, she wrote in a lengthy note, "You can't make this stuff up!!!!"
However, as of now, her X account appears to be active and not suspended.
Disputed suspension
Bhasker challenged X's copyright infringement claims
Bhasker challenged the permanent suspension of her account, arguing that the copyright infringement claims were unfair.
She wrote, "Dear X, two images from two tweets have been marked as 'copyright infringements.' Basis which my X account is locked/disabled, I can't access it and permanent suspension has been approved by your teams (sic)."
"One image had an orange background with Hindi text saying, 'Gandhi Hum Sharmindaa hain, Tere qaatil zinda hain,' a popular slogan in India...There is no copyright violation."
Personal image dispute
'Who has a copyright on my child's likeness?'
The second image that got Bhasker's account suspended was of her own kid, with a covered face, holding an Indian flag, and the words "HAPPY REPUBLIC DAY India."
Bhasker questioned this move, asking, "How can this possibly be a copyright infringement ???? Who has a copyright on my child's likeness???"
She called both complaints "ridiculous and untenable by any rational, logical, and objective understanding of any legal definition of copyright."
Freedom infringement
Bhasker accused X of suppressing her freedom of speech
Further, in her post, Bhasker accused X of infringing her freedom of speech and expression.
She hinted that "if these tweets have been mass reported they are aimed to harass the user i.e. myself and are aimed at suppressing my freedom of speech and expression."
To conclude, she asked X to "review and reverse" their decision.
It remains to be seen whether her post will overturn the infringement decision.
